Project Manager Resume Example
A project manager resume that shows the size of the projects you led and how they finished: on time, on budget and delivering what was promised.
Project manager resumes are judged on scope and outcomes. Reviewers want to know how big your projects were, how many people and vendors you coordinated, and whether they finished on schedule and within budget.
The example below is written for a project manager with eight years of experience in construction and facilities projects. If you manage software, marketing or operations projects, keep the same approach and change the methods and tools.
Recommended resume format for a project manager
Reverse-chronological, up to two pages. Put budget, team size and schedule in the first bullet of each role so the scale of your work is immediately clear. Experienced project managers can use two pages if every project listed is relevant. See resume formats compared.

Education section guidance
List your degree after your experience. Degrees in business, engineering, construction management or computer science are common, but project results matter more than the field of study.
Include project management training, such as a PMP preparation course, only if you do not yet hold the certification.
Certifications and licenses for a project manager resume
Many employers request or prefer a recognized project management certification. Include the full name and the issuing organization.
- Project Management Professional (PMP)
- Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM)
- PRINCE2 Foundation or Practitioner
- Professional Scrum Master (PSM I) or Certified ScrumMaster (CSM)
- PMI Agile Certified Practitioner (PMI-ACP)
Common project manager resume mistakes
- Missing the numbers. Budgets, team sizes and timelines show your level. Include them even when results were average.
- Describing the project, not your role. Make it clear what you led, decided or fixed, not only what the team built.
- Listing methodologies you have not used. Only list Agile, PRINCE2 or other methods if you can describe how you applied them.
- Burying the certification. If the role requires PMP, put it in your summary and your Certifications section.

Should I put PMP after my name on my resume?
You can, if you hold an active certification. Also list it in your Certifications section with the issuing organization, the Project Management Institute.
How many projects should I list?
Summarize the most relevant ones in each role's bullets. If you have many similar projects, give totals, such as "25 renovation projects valued from $500,000 to $6 million".
Can I become a project manager without the title?
